Steam irons, dry irons, and handheld garment steamers are categorized as small electronic appliances (e-waste) combining metal soleplates, heating coils, copper cables, and plastic water tanks. They cannot be recycled as scrap metal and must be deposited free of charge into small e-waste collection bins or picked up via free door-to-door bulk e-waste collection (1588-1590 for 5+ items).
Clothing collection bins only accept re-wearable clothes, shoes, bags, and thin blankets. Stuffed comforters, damaged clothes, and luggage are prohibited.

Swim caps, swimming goggles, and snorkel diving masks resemble recyclable plastics, synthetic rubber, or textiles, often leading to accidental contamination in curbside recycling or clothing donation bins. Although goggle lenses are molded from polycarbonate (PC), their inner surfaces are chemically bonded with anti-fog hydrophilic coatings, while their outer frames are permanently fused with silicone eye gaskets, rubber head straps, and adjustment buckles. Under Ministry of Environment guidelines, complex multi-material accessories like eyewear, goggles, and toys with fused rubber parts are strictly excluded from plastic recycling. Furthermore, silicone and latex caps are thermoset elastomers that will not melt down into recyclable polymers. All swimming accessories must be incinerated in 100% municipal general trash bags.
Heated eye masks and sleep blindfolds must be disposed of based on their heating mechanism and electronic circuitry. Disposable steam warm eye masks contain iron powder, activated charcoal, vermiculite heating packets, and non-woven fabrics that cannot be recycled and must be thrown into general municipal trash bags once completely cooled down. Conversely, USB-powered electric warm masks, cordless heated eye massagers, and rechargeable vibration goggles contain lithium-ion batteries and carbon heating films, classifying them as small household e-waste that can be dropped off free of charge into municipal e-waste recycling bins. Traditional fabric or silk blackout sleep masks are excluded from clothing donation bins and belong in regular general trash.
